The new through station

The present terminus station in Stuttgart will be replaced by a through station with eight tracks, which will be located underground and at right angles to the present building. Although it will have only half the number of tracks, a significantly higher number of trains will be able to enter and leave the station. The “light eyes” which admit daylight into the passenger building are a striking architectural feature which will make the new station a flagship building for the city. Another unusual feature is that the station roof will double as a “pavement” and form the new square “Strassburger Platz”, directly adjacent to Schlossgarten park. The new through station in Stuttgart can cope with growing passenger volumes and ensure fast and comfortable regional and long-distance rail services.
