A safe method
Digging a tunnel always affects the soil and rocks in the surrounding area. If there is only a shallow layer of soil overlying the tunnel roof, this can lead to changes in the ground surface, and consequently to buildings in that area. In such cases, Deutsche Bahn conducts comprehensive safety measures to protect and maintain buildings before work begins. These include systematic analysis of the foundation soil in the form of exploratory drilling, groundwater measuring points and monitoring any shifts in the soil.
