Shorter journey times, fewer transfers
Whether you are heading from Aalen to Tübingen, from Heilbronn to the airport or from Waiblingen to Reutlingen – in future, rail passengers will be able to cross Stuttgart simply and quickly, as all regional trains can run through Stuttgart Main Station without having to change direction.
The results
- Minimum need to change trains, shorter journey times
- Shorter stopovers at stations
- Less car & truck traffic in the region
Less congestion in the Filder region
In addition to the present S-Bahn (rapid transit) services, there will also be regional trains linking the Filder region to Tübingen and Horb. Transport experts at Stuttgart University forecast that approx. 18 million passenger journeys per annum will switch from road to rail, a development which will also relieve congestion on the extremely busy roads in the Filder region.
Better connections
The new Remsbahnkurve connection means that trains coming from Waiblingen can continue to Karlsruhe without having to turn around. Flugfeld residential and industrial centre in Böblingen/Sindelfingen will have a direct link to the airport and trade fair centre. Passengers from the south of the Greater Stuttgart Region or the south of Baden-Württemberg will be able to transfer to trains to Munich at the new Bahnhof Flughafen/Messe (station at the airport/trade fair centre).

“The Stuttgart-Ulm rail project“ will significantly reduce journey times on several major routes. For instance, trains will take passengers from Stuttgart city centre to the airport and Filder region in just eight minutes, compared with the present figure of 27 minutes. Regional trains will run from Stuttgart to Ulm in 27 minutes, including a stop at the new Bahnhof Flughafen/Messe (station at the airport/trade fair centre). More services and more direct connections with no need to change trains – a further advantage for commuters in the attractive economic region of Stuttgart.
